When can I sign up my child for the Transitional Kindergarten lottery?

Birthdates between 9-2-2017 and 2-2-2018. 2022/2023 Lottery was held on Friday, March 4, 2022. To be added to the 2022-23 waitlist, if you were not in the lottery, please click here to complete the form.
Birthdates between 9-2-2018 and 2-2-2019. 2023/24 Lottery will be held on the first Friday in March 2023. 2023/24 Lottery sign-ups are November 2022-February 2023.

Transitional Kindergarten is a program for students that turn 5 between 9/2 and 4/2. Santa Rosa Academy’s TK program is a Red Track homeschool program with 2 half days on-campus with a teacher. All TK students do not have priority in the following year’s kindergarten lottery, though students will be guaranteed a spot in Red Track for Kindergarten. If a TK student is a sibling of a current student, then the TK student will be listed as a sibling in the kindergarten lottery. Siblings of TK students do not have sibling status in the annual lottery.

What is TK?

TK is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate.

TK programs, as defined in the statute, are not preschool classrooms or child development programs. They are part of the TK-12 public school system and are the first year of a two-year kindergarten program, which uses a modified kindergarten curriculum. Pursuant to EC 48000(f), TK programs are intended to be aligned to the California Preschool Learning Foundations developed by the CDE.

Our Kindergarten program is for students who turn five on or before September 1.

The Kindergarten Readiness Act of 2010 changed the Kindergarten entry date from December 2 to September 1 so that children enter kindergarten at age 5.
